CBD Rules in Denmark: What B2B Buyers Need to Know

Denmark allows the sale of many hemp-based CBD products, but the rules have important limits. If you buy CBD wholesale to resell or manufacture in Denmark, these are the main points to understand.

The 0.2% THC limit

Since 1 July 2018, the Danish executive order on euphoriant substances has allowed cannabis-based products with up to 0.2% THC to be produced and sold without breaching narcotics rules. Above that level, products are treated as containing a controlled substance. Always check the THC figure on the batch COA against this limit.

When CBD counts as a medicine

The 0.2% limit did not change the Danish Medicines Act. According to the Danish Medicines Agency (Lægemiddelstyrelsen), a CBD product can still be classified as a medicinal product if it is meant to be consumed or applied to the skin and has a real effect in the body, or if it is marketed with medical claims. Medicinal products cannot be sold without authorisation, and CBD medicines are prescription-only.

In practice this means resellers should avoid presenting CBD products as treatments and avoid health claims in product descriptions and marketing.

Food and supplements

At EU level, foods and supplements with added CBD are treated as novel foods, which require authorisation before they can be sold. Selling CBD as a food ingredient therefore carries extra regulatory requirements beyond the THC limit.

A checklist before you resell

  • THC on the batch COA is at or below 0.2%
  • No medical or health claims on packaging, product pages or social media
  • The product is not presented as a food or supplement unless authorised
  • Your supplier can provide a batch-specific COA from an independent lab
  • You have checked the latest guidance, as rules in this area are under active review

How we supply

Canna Traders sells CBD, CBG and CBN as B2B raw materials and botanical items, not as medicines, food or supplements, with percentages on each product page taken from the current batch COA. Browse the CBD, CBG & CBN wholesale range.
